RESIDENTIAL REMODELING TRENDS IN 2020

The last 3-5 years showcased the only rule you need to remember when it comes to residential design and remodeling is that there are no rules. To the delight of our clients, this sense of freedom allowed homeowners to define their living spaces in ways that truly speak to their personalities and lifestyles. Being able to deliver on these visions makes the experience for us that much more exciting.

As we close out 2019 and look ahead to 2020 here’s a look at two trends that are expected to persist throughout the year.

BATHROOMS

For many homeowners that prioritized their kitchens and primary living spaces, they are now turning their attention to the much-needed updates to their bathrooms.

Who doesn’t love going to a spa and experiencing that feeling of getting away from it all?

For many, replicating that same feeling at home is becoming a greater priority. A well-designed bathroom allows a homeowner to not only enjoy the very best in functionality, but also a sense of peace and relaxation regardless the size of the space. Be it an optimized shower that provides a little extra room or upgrading to a double vanity so that two people can simultaneously get ready, the look and feel is the bow this gift that gives no less than two times a day and for some can be their sanctuary.

We expect most homeowners will opt to design their bathrooms in ways that compliment the rest of the home. Where we see the biggest differences that in years past, it’s the attention to detail. Things like toekick lighting instead of plug-in night lights help light one’s midnight path to the toilet. Countertops with personality and contrast that is accentuated by the sink. And, a growing demand for radiant heated flooring. Once you’ve experienced the feel of warm tile under your feet, there really is no going back.

FIREPLACES

The centerpiece of many a great room is the fireplace, and homeowners will continue to set their sights on them to make bold statements.

Replacing an old hearth is and will remain a growing priority for clients who see them as outdated and lacking in personality. Long-gone are brick fireplaces. Clients remain interested in bold tile and stone and complimented by reclaimed wood mantels. But a new-er participant in this space is steel and other metals; less for structural needs and more in terms of a decorative look and feel.

There is so much that can be done with metal, including a rusted, worn look or given a clean finished look that will maintain a more polished feel. Either design is taking fireplaces to a new level of distinction and will be the envy of many homeowners in 2020.
